Every now and then, a second photo tells the story even better than the first. When I photographed Imani Pope-Johns during my headshot campaign in Bethesda, the first portrait we shared showed her strength and confidence — a perfect image of a woman at the top of her game. But this one? This one brings the joy forward.
A Candid Moment with Real Energy
This photo wasn’t planned, posed, or expected. It happened after we had already captured her “official” headshot. Imani, in her element, was laughing at something I said — fully relaxed, fully present. And that’s the magic of photographing someone more than once: you build trust, and from trust comes honest emotion.
I believe the best headshots aren’t just about appearance — they’re about presence. And when someone lets their personality come through in an unfiltered moment, that becomes the most powerful image in the gallery.
The Professional Advantage of Personality
Imani is a powerhouse in public relations and media strategy — a woman who knows how to manage narratives, shape brands, and lead with both insight and empathy. So it’s no surprise that this playful, human portrait might resonate even more with her audience than the posed one.
In an age of personal branding, showing your joy is a strategic advantage. People connect with real energy. They remember warmth. They trust what feels authentic.
The Technical Side
This image was taken with the same lens and lighting setup — my go-to 70–200mm against a soft grey backdrop — allowing her expression to take the spotlight. The consistency in background keeps the series clean and professional, while the range in emotion gives it editorial impact. It’s what I call elevated branding photography — intentional, polished, but full of life.
What This Portrait Teaches
Whether you’re a CEO, an artist, or an entrepreneur like Imani, your best images aren’t just the ones where you look put together — they’re the ones where you feel like you.
That’s the kind of photography I aim to deliver: clean, confident, and connected.
Stay tuned for more images from Imani’s session — this is only the beginning of what became a truly dynamic portrait series.
